Abstract (EN):
This paper overviews the most significant control methods of the induction motor (Scalar Control, Field Oriented Control (FOC), Direct Self Control (DSC), Direct Torque Control (DTC)) and proposes a brief analysis of their major advantages and drawbacks. In a second stage, the interest of multi-level static conversion for medium voltage applications (up to 6.6 kV rated motors) is pointed out and some topologies are presented and discussed (Cascaded association of 2-level converters, Neutral Point Clamped (NPC), Multi-Cell). Some industrial realizations of medium voltage drives, using the above mentioned control methods and converter topologies, are also referred for illustration. © 2001 IEEE.
