Resumo (PT):
Abstract (EN): The demand to research sustainable packaging materials with increasingly better mechanical properties is growing because of the impact of packaging waste on the environment. Twenty five million tonnes of plastic waste are generated annually in Europe, and of these, only 30% are collected for recycling (Penca, 2018). The focus of this review is the biomaterials, with a highlight on the biodegradable materials. This choice is justified by the fact that they are a possible solution to the today¿s scenario. This research presents several biofoams that prove to be potential substitutes of EPS, a non-biodegradable fossil-based foam. Among them, it is proposed the Green cell foam that dissolves in water or Khel biofoam that is easily compostable in a household composter or in the backyard. © 2020 Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK.
