Abstract (EN):
In 1984, Burton and Ingold published a paper in Science that noted as a departure observation a weak epidemiological association between cancer incidence and intake of beta-carotene and other carotenoids. Their paper opened a new era for epidemiology and put forward a new biochemical hypothesis centered on the role of antioxidants. © 2004 by Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
