Abstract (EN):
Formal selection techniques (FST) output seems to be more influential in decisions to select or reject a project that is close to the development end of the Research and Development (R&D) spectrum, and is considered very important to the organization. FSTs seem also more likely to be used predominantly in an instrumental manner, when the selection process has the strong participation of the finance and production functions. If the FST output is based on technical soundness and market strategy, it is considered politically sensitive. Instrumental use is also more likely to happen when formalized and systematic procedures for screening project proposals are currently used.
