Abstract (EN): An attempt was made to detect the presence of the sodium pump in the outer mantle epithelium of Anodonta cygnea. In five samples of this epithelium an ouabain sensitive ATPase was detected in the homogenate. Its activity per mg protein was three times higher in the microsomal fraction. The effect of ouabain on the short-circuit current of the outer mantle epithelium was studied. The drug was ineffective when added to the shell side but from the hemolymph side it produced an inhibition of 50% after 2.5 h. Previous failures in reporting this effect were probably due to short observation periods.
