Abstract (EN):
The CERVICARE project aims to develop a new networked integrated cervix screening system, making intelligent use of quantitative non-destructive characterization (QNDC) for online help on early detection of cervical carcinoma. In the end, a PC based workstation and some peripherals, will act as an add-on to the standard doctors' equipment and will support the physician during the examination, helping him to attain a better diagnosis of the potential disease by ranking its likeliness against a set of predetermined parameters, thus lowering the need to use more differentiated tests. The key issue within the project is the development of QNDC methods for improving the quality of the cervical diagnosis. This is based on the definition of a set of problem descriptors, obtained by data fusion of image and Reflected Light Analysis (RLA). The identification of cervical carcinoma by the two techniques is to be accomplished using pattern recognition algorithms.
