Abstract (EN): This work consists of two different numerical studies of the application and efficiency of tuned mass dampers (TMD). The first part presents the results of a parametric analysis of the effects of TMDs in the mitigation of the consequences of earthquakes on shear buildings, according to a certain criterion of damping selection. The second part of this work concerns the use of a TMD to reduce the vibration amplitude of a double span pedestrian bridge to values within the comfort limits. © Civil-Comp Press, 2009.
