Abstract (EN):
Recently, there has been a rising interest on the incretin hormones. Acarbose increases the release of GLP-1 in the distal intestine, ileum and colon during the late postprandial period. GLP-1 makes beta-cells more sensitive to glucose, insulin secretion increases and insulin sensitivity improves. The increase in GLP-1 after acarbose treatment is thought to be secondary to the delayed and more distal intestinal absorption of carbohydrates and is important in the reduction of postprandial hyperglycaemia. Lately, there has beet? a great deal of interest in this relationship, which is not yet entirely understood. The purpose of this review is to summarize the recent data in the literature concerning this relationship between acarbose treatment in type 2 diabetes and incretin hormone response.
