Abstract (EN):
The liquid phase kinetics of tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME) production from the reactions between methanol and the isoamylenes 2-methyl-1-butene (2M1B) and 2-methyl-2-butene (2M2B) were studied in a batch reactor at 324-362 K and 10 bar, using Rohm & Haas Amberlyst¿ 15Wet as catalyst. The reaction rates were written in terms of activities and the liquid-phase activity coefficients were calculated by the UNIFAC method. The chemical equilibrium was also studied in the same temperature range. The heat of reaction was determined to be -41.7 kj/mole for the synthesis of TAME from methanol and 2M1B, -31 kj/mole from methanol and 2M2B and -10.7 kj/mole for the isomerization reaction between 2M1B and 2M2B. The scheme of the experimental setup used to obtain kinetic and equilibrium data is illustrated.
