Abstract (EN): This chapter presents the main possibilities to use cork-based composites on structural applications. Particular emphasis will be given to the use of cork core materials for sandwich constructions, as well as on damage tolerant solutions using cork. The relevant properties (mechanical, thermal, acoustical and chemical) for the applications will be briefly presented. In order to give design guidance, fracture mechanics properties, in particular delamination, are discussed either to optimize bonding or to enhance damage tolerant properties. After some considerations on different fibers and matrices of natural origin, the processing techniques more applicable to cork structural applications are introduced. © 2017 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
