Abstract (EN): The rate of repassivation of AISI 304 stainless steel in Cl- solutions of pH 2 has been examined as a function of potential. The rate of repassivation was found to decrease in the vicinity of the pitting potential. This decrease could not be used as an accurate measure of the pitting potential because at lower potentials, where repassivation rate was rapid, pits nucleated, provided that the potential was maintained for long periods of time. © 1982.
