Abstract (EN): A staged approach of fixed bed sorption operations is presented which starts with a simple model (nonlinear equilibrium plus film mass transfer resistance) and then considers a second resistance to mass transfer inside the particle. Some algorithms for the integration of systems of stiff ODEs are discussed; it is concluded that for the film controlled process the GEARB method is the best among the available programs for the integration of the system.
