Abstract (EN): With up to 256 silver/silver-chloride (Ag/AgCl) electrodes, research using multichannel electroencephalography (EEC) is nowadays characterized by an increasing number of electrodes. Hence, the preparation gets more and more time-consuming and error-prone. We propose a novel electrode concept based on titanium/titanium nitride (Ti/TiN) electrodes integrated into a novel EEC cap based on fluidic-driven mechanisms. We describe the construction of our electrodes and perform EEC measurements in order to evaluate them in a multichannel setup. Therefore an additional set of conventional Ag/AgCl electrodes was integrated into the Ti/TiN EEC cap, enabling simultaneous recordings with both types of electrodes. In our tests, which included spontaneous EEC like resting state EEC, eye movements, alpha activity, and pattern reversal VEP, we found no considerable differences between compared adjacent electrodes. For the pattern reversal VEP, we found similar potential maps with both types of electrodes. In conclusion, our novel Ti/TiN electrodes have the potential to replace the conventional Ag/AgCl electrodes.
