Resumo (PT): artigo aborda o romance Os anões e os mendigos (1984), do escritor angolano Manuel dos Santos Lima, discutindo a possibilidade de se tratar de uma obra à clef distópica. O autor defende que, apesar da possibilidade de aproximar espaços, personagens e ações de figuras e factos da história recente de Angola, o livro tem uma dimensão alegórica ¿ em parte resultante do aproveitamento do texto bíblico ¿ que lhe garante um alcance mais vasto. Por outro lado, sustenta que os vários sinais de distopia que se observam no romance não são suficientes para que ele possa ser enquadrado nessa categoria

Abstract (EN): The article considers the novel Os anões e os mendigos (1984), by the Angolan writer Manuel dos Santos Lima, discussing the possibility of being a dystopian novel à clef. The author argues that, despite the possibility of approaching spaces, characters and action from figures and facts of the recent history of Angola, the book has an allegorical dimension ¿ partly resulting from the use of the biblical text ¿ which guarantees a wider reach. On the other hand, maintains that the various signs of dystopia occurring in the novel are not enough so it can be classified in that category.
