Resumo (PT): O trabalho que aqui se apresenta insere-se num conjunto de estudos de interpretação sócio-económica e urbanística da cidade, estudos efectuados durante o ano de 2003 e cujo desenvolvimento obedeceu a um plano de acção preparado no início desse ano. O desenvolvimento destes estudos tinha múltiplos e ambiciosos objectivos: em primeiro lugar, conhecer e interpretar melhor a cidade contemporânea e dotar as diferentes iniciativas da Câmara Municipal de Lisboa (CML) desse conhecimento, quer as de cariz mais estrutural (como o processo de revisão do Plano Director Municipal – PDM), quer as diferentes actividades dos serviços municipais; em segundo lugar, sugerir reflexões estratégicas e orientações concretas para os diferentes espaços urbanos que compõem a cidade, assim como a sua interligação com espaços mais vastos – metropolitano, nacional e europeu; e, em terceiro lugar, divulgar para a cidade/sociedade tais análises e interpretações, dado que esta é construída por todos, e é também responsabilidade da instituição municipal contribuir para a difusão da informação e promover a cultura e o conhecimento.

Abstract (EN): The work presented here is part of a serie of studies of socio-economic and urban interpretation of the city planning, studies done during the year 2003 and whose development followed a plan of action prepared earlier this year. The development of these studies had multiple and ambitious objectives: first, better to understand and interpret the contemporary city and provide the various initiatives of the Municipality of Lisbon (CML) that knowledge, whether of a more structural nature (such as the review process Plano Director Municipal - PDM) or the various activities of municipal services; second, to suggest strategic thinking and concrete guidelines for the different urban spaces that make up the city, as well as its interconnection with broader spaces - metropolitan, national and European level; and, third, to promote to the city / society such analysis and interpretations, as it is built for everyone, and it’s also the responsibility of the municipal institution to contribute to the dissemination of information and promote culture and knowledge.
