Abstract (EN):
An image processing based method of calculating Poisson's ratio is proposed. This approach combines pure geometrical analysis with an optimization based tracking technique. The images were obtained from the video recordings of uniaxial tension tests. The tested materials were prolapsed human vaginal tissues, which are soft, highly hydrated tissues. Due to the lack of distinctive characteristics on the sample's face (acting as tracking marks), an algorithm that extracts information from the RGB codes of a given region (mask) and tracks it's subsequent evolution was implemented. There were no additional markings (purposely made) on the samples. The image processing software solution that implements the algorithm, was developed using MATLAB(R) and some functions from the image processing toolbox (IPT) were used.
