Abstract (EN):
Calcium phosphate materials are widely used in biomedical applications but their poor strength and brittleness limit their use in load bearing applications. To improve their mechanical properties, hydroxyapatite (HA) ceramics were reinforced with P2O5-CaO based glasses with additions of Na2+, Mg2+ and K+ oxides. A composite chemical composition that approaches the inorganic part of bone chemical composition was obtained using HA with calcium phosphate-based glasses. Fracture toughness was significantly enhanced by glass additions, and the decrease in fracture toughness at 1300 and 1350 °C was attributed to grain growth since it significantly increased with sintering temperature.
