Abstract (EN): The main objective of the present study is to describe the techniques and procedures for the analysis of used lubricating grease samples in regard of their contaminant contents, by using techniques based on dissolved grease samples. In order to evaluate the dissolution of the thickeners in the greases, samples of unused grease were analyzed alongside with samples of unused grease that had been deliberately contaminated with iron particles of known size distribution. The dissolution efficiency of different solvent mixtures was evaluated by analyzing grease samples by automatic particle counting and by using a membrane microfiltration technique.
