Abstract (EN): Nowadays, in Portuguese masonry buildings enclosures, the use of single-leaf walls is not very frequent, but its application is growing. A deep study of this kind of solution adapted to Portuguese reality has been made, considering mechanical, thermal, acoustic and watertight behaviour; the importance of finishes, materials, detailing, sustainability, economy and workmanship has been analysed too. In this paper we present a summary of the masonry buildings enclosures requirements, materials requirements, economy analysis, construction and quality control applied to single-leaf buildings external walls. A methodology of analysis of this kind of solution is proposed covering design and construction aspects. The result of ten case studies of single-leaf buildings enclosures is presented too.
