O CJS (Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar sobre Crime, Justiça e Segurança) da Escola de Criminologia da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade do Porto tem o prazer de convidar V. Exas. para a 26.ª Conferência CJS, integrada no Seminário de Doutoramento em Criminologia da FDUP 2022/2023.

A conferência, intitulada “Ética na Investigação em Criminologia", terá como oradores Margarida Santos (Membro da Comissão Ética da FDUP) e João Guerreiro (Professor Agregado na Faculdade de Ciências Humanas da Universidade do Québec à Montreal) – que contará com o apoio de Catherine Champagne (Estudante de Doutoramento em Psicologia na Universidade do Québec à Montreal), numa intervenção intitulada "Pensar a Dimensão Ética da Investigação em Criminologia e Psicologia Forense a partir da Experiência Canadiana - e realiza-se no dia 14 de julho, pelas 11h (hora portuguesa). Margarida Santos é doutorada em Criminologia (FDUP) e exerce funções como Professora Auxiliar Convidada no 1º e 2º Ciclo de Estudos em Criminologia na Universidade do Porto e na Universidade Lusíada – Porto (UL). É membro do Centro de Investigação da Escola de Criminologia da FDUP (CJS - Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Crime, Justice and Security), do Centro de Estudos, Jurídicos, Económicos e Ambientais (CEJEA) da UL, da Comissão de Ética (FDUP) e da Comissão Cientifica do 3º Ciclo de Estudos em Criminologia (FDUP). A sua principal área de investigação foca-se na explicação do desenvolvimento de comportamentos antissociais e delinquentes em crianças e jovens e na sua prevenção precoce. Nesta área, tem especial interesse pelos processos de socialização (e.g. parentalidade), assim como, pelos fatores individuais (e.g. temperamento) e ambientais (e.g. escola, área de residência, pares desviantes) associados a este fenómeno. Os seus trabalhos de investigação mais recentes também incluem o estudo das práticas de Justiça Restaurativa, em especial da Mediação Penal em Portugal.

 

João Guerreiro é Professor agregado no Departamento de Psicologia da Université du Québec à Montréal e investigador no Centro de Investigação do Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatria Forense Philippe Pinel, trabalhando igualmente, neste último, como psicólogo clínico. As suas principais áreas de investigação centram-se na (1) violência autoinfligida ou contra terceiros, em meio psiquiátrico forense e em meio prisional; na (2) avaliação do risco de violência, e no (3) tráfico de pessoas para fins de exploração sexual vivido por mulheres detidas e em situação de vulnerabilidade psicossocial.

Catherine Champagne iniciou recentemente o seu Doutoramento em Psicologia na Université du Québec à Montréal sob a supervisão do Professor João Guerreiro, depois de ter terminado a Licenciatura em Psicologia na mesma instituição, em 2022. Trabalhou enquanto técnica e voluntária junto de pessoas migrantes, pessoas com problemas de saúde mental, delinquentes sexuais em situação de vulnerabilidade e de mulheres e crianças vítimas de violência doméstica. As suas áreas principais de investigação relacionam-se com o tráfico para fins de exploração sexual vivido por mulheres detidas e o acesso ao espaço urbano por pessoas migrantes.

CJS, the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Crime, Justice and Security of the School of Criminology - Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, is pleased to invite you to the 26th CJS Conference, titled "Research Ethics in Criminology", featuring Margarida Santos (Member of the Ethics Committee of the FDUP) and João Guerreiro (Aggregate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Quebec à Montréal) - that will be supported by Catherine Champagne (PhD student in Psychology at the University of Quebec à Montreal) in an intervention titled "Thinking about the Ethical Dimension of Research in Criminology and Forensic Psychology from the Canadian Experience". The conference, integrated in the PhD Seminar in Criminology at FDUP 2022/2023, will take place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (Room 1.27) and via Zoom (https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/91870287450) on July 14th, 11am (GMT), and attendance is free. Prof. Samuel Moreira (Invited Assistant Professor at FDUP) will chair the session.

 

Margarida Santos holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from the Faculty of Law at the University of Porto (FDUP) and works as an Assistant Professor in Criminology at the University of Porto and at the University Lusíada - Porto (UL). She is a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Crime, Justice, and Security at FDUP (CJS) and at the Center for Legal, Economic, and Environmental Studies (CEJEA) at UL. She is also a member of the Ethics Committee at FDUP and of the Scientific Committee for the doctoral program in Criminology at FDUP. Her primary research area focuses on explaining the development of antisocial and delinquent behaviors in children and youth, as well as early prevention strategies. Within this field, she has a particular interest in socialization processes (e.g., parenting), as well as individual factors (e.g., temperament) and environmental factors (e.g., school, residential area, deviant peers) associated with this phenomenon. Her recent research also includes the study of Restorative Justice practices, particularly Penal Mediation in Portugal.

 

João Guerreiro is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal and a researcher at the Research Centre of the Philippe Pinel National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, where he also works as a clinical psychologist. He is interested in researching (1) self-inflicted violence or violence against others in forensic psychiatric and prison settings, (2) violence risk assessment, and (3) human trafficking for sexual exploitation, experienced by women imprisioned and experiencing psychosocial vulnerability.

Catherine Champagne recently started her PhD in Psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal under the supervision of Professor João Guerreiro, after finishing her degree in Psychology at the same institution in 2022. She has worked as a technician and volunteer with migrants, people with mental health problems, vulnerable sex offenders and women and children victims of domestic violence. Her main areas of research relate to trafficking for sexual exploitation experienced by women imprisoned and to access to urban space by migrants.
