Academic training:
PhD in Law from the Faculty of Law of U. Porto (2016), with the public and viva voce defense, on 17 October 2016, of the dissertation «O arguido como meio de prova contra si mesmo: considerações em torno do princípio nemo tenetur se ipsum accusare» (The defendant as evidence against himself: considerations about the principle nemo tenetur se ipsum accusare). The evaluation panel was composed of Miguel Pestana de Vasconcelos (President, by rectoral delegation), Jorge de Figueiredo Dias, Manuel da Costa Andrade (Advisor), Cândido da Agra, José Damião da Cunha (external examiner), Augusto Silva Dias, Maria João Antunes, Frederico de Lacerda da Pinto Costa and António Manuel de Almeida Costa (internal examiner). The doctoral thesis has been unanimously graded Approved with Distinction, the highest grade awarded by the University of Porto. It was also awarded an Honorable Mention in the 3rd edition of the IAB Prize (2017), and is published in the Livraria Almedina theses collection.
Obtained a Master's degree in Criminal Legal Sciences from the Faculty of Law of U. Coimbra (2006), with the public and viva voce defense of the dissertation «A protecção de testemunhas no processo penal» (Witness protection in criminal procedure), published under the seal of Coimbra Editora). The Master thesis was rated Very Good with Distinction (18 points in 20).
Graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of U. Porto (2000).
Teaching activity:
In addition to the teaching activity at FDUP, she has collaborated in the teaching of several courses of the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Studies in other Faculties of U. Porto. At the invitation of the Center for Judicial Studies (CEJ), she has occasionally been speaker in Continuous Training Actions for Judicial Magistrates and the Public Prosecution Service. Collaborated as an external trainer with the Center for Studies and Municipal Training (CEFA).
Other activities:
Member of the Board of Directors of the Faculty of Law of U. Porto between 2008 and 2010. Founding member of the Portuguese Society of Criminology (SPC), as well as the Interdisciplinary Center on Crime, Justice and Security of the School of Criminology (CJS), and researcher of the Center for Legal and Economic Research (CIJE) of the Faculty of Law of U. Porto.
Fellow of the AIDP – International Association of Penal Law (since 2019). Visiting scholar at the at the University of Eastern Piedmont (2022) and at the ABDConst - Brasilian Academy of Constitucional Law (2019). Guest researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Strafrecht in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and fellow at the Deutscher Akademischer Austauch Dienst (DAAD) in 2010. She is a permanent contributor to the Revista Portuguesa de Ciência Criminal (RPCC). Participates regularly in national and international seminars and conferences as a speaker and or organizer and has published work in national and foreign magazines. She has been registered with the Portuguese Bar since 2002 and, in that capacity, is member of the European Criminal Bar Association (since 2019) and of Criminal Forum - Association of Criminal Lawyers (since 2019).
Outside the university context, she is President of the Committee of Instructors of the Portuguese Professional Football League (triennium 2022-2025). Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Alexandrina de Balasar Foundation between 2016 and 2022.
