Objectives

In this course, student must make an original research work, in order to write her dissertation, revealing that is holding solid knowledge in Criminology, or building an action-research project.

Learning outcomes and competences

More specifically, it is intended students demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge, to develop an appropriate and current review of the state of the art on the selected theme, to raise research questions, selecting the research design most appropriate to the subject and set out issues, to define research hypotheses, to effectively collect and to analyse data using the most appropriate instruments and, finally, to achieve conclusions responding to initially established research questions. The aim is also that the student is able to communicate their findings effectively in the dissertation / project and discuss it in public.

The contents of the course depend on the research topic, which should be preferably empirical, selected by the student in the field of Criminology, to be presented on dissertation or project.

Comments from the literature

In this course, it is intended that students develop an original research on a topic or a research-action project. Therefore, they will need to use a specific bibliography selected over own literature review process.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course runs under tutorial supervision. Therefore, students must follow their research or project, in accordance to the formal rules in use at the Faculty.
