The program aims to introduce i) the emergency conditions of clinical criminology, theories and concepts, methods, themes and intervention fields; ii) the applications of the clinical method in the criminological praxis and the process and dynamics of the psychological assessment; iii) the different methods and techniques of psychological assessment and its scientific basis; iv) the notion of clinical practice as an evidemce based practice; v) the contribution of the scientific study of personality, psychopathology, social cognition and morality for the conceptualization of the person under clinical analysis; vi) the limits and implications of clinical criminology and ethical and deontological issues.
It is expected that students acquire the skills that are necessary to reflect around the core concepts of clinical criminology. We also intend to introduce and train essential clinical skills in assessment and intervention.

I - Personality, Emotion, Social Cognition and Morality: Integrated perspective from the standview of the Social, Cognitive and Affective Neurosciences
a) Introduction to the molecular bases of personality: - Phenotypes and endophenotypes; - The search for the endophenotypical bases that contribute to the emergence of personality traits; - Etiology of personality traits; - Neuroimaging and personality.
b )Emotion and personality: - Definition and functions of emotion; - Theories of emotion.
c) Social Cognition and Morality: Theories on the development of the sense of care and justice; - Broader perspectives on the foundations of morality (rationalist vs. Intuicionists vs. Socio-intuicionist perspectives).
d) Exposure to stress and decision making impairments
e) The implications of neuroscience for the legal definition of responsability
II - Clinical Criminology, Dangerousness and Assessment:
a) Clinical Criminology: Introduction; - Definition and object; - Emergency and crisis
b) The concept of Dangerousness: Dangerousness and criminal personality; - Conceptual framework (criminologic and juridic perspectives); - From dangerousness to risk: historical and critical approach
c) The clinical method and the phenomenological perspective; Understanding and interpretation; - Process and dynamics of the psychological assessment; - Observation and evaluation models and techniques; - The clinical interview.
d) Actuarial assessment: Objectives and instruments;
e) Clinical approach to special delinquent groups: aggressive and sexual delinquents.
Theoretical-practical classes, combining the description and discussion of the main contents of the program with practical group-work. Practical classes are orientated towards the active search for information, the integration pf the contents through the analysis of recent scientific literature and the discussion of the implication of current theoretical models and research for the analysis of particular cases.
