Main objective: in this curricular unit, it is intended that students know, in a critical way, the phase, the method and the procedures of criminal investigation and criminalistic in the wider context of the criminal procedure and the justice system.
Specific objectives:
Critical knowledge of the sociopolitical context in which the development of the criminal investigation and criminalistic takes place;
To know the method and the criminal cycle namely at the level of understanding of its actors, dimensions and processes;
Understanding the articulation of criminal investigation with the intelligence and the interinstitucional and international cooperation;
Critical exercise of the connection between the criminal investigation activity and criminology;
To know the manifestation of contemporary forms of crime and criminal investigation;
To be aware of the studies on criminality and other products that emerge from the criminal investigation.
At the end of this curricular unit, the students should:
Define and understand the criminal and criminalistic investigation method as well as the system where they develop;
Identify the institutions, entities, agents, processes and mechanisms underneath the criminal investigation;
Critically analyze the connection between criminal investigation and criminology.

VII- Towards the Criminal investigation’ dimension and the Criminology: the problematic of juridical, scientific, ethical, symbolic, critical and functional dimensions
VIII- Seminars: “ Contemporary Manifestations of Criminality and Criminal Investigation”
Theoretical -practical classes, combining the presentation of the syllabus with the analysis and discussion of the literature and case studies selected by the teacher and previously prepared by students.
Evaluation: Distributed evaluation with final exam. In the distributed evaluation component, students should elaborate a written analysis about the relation between criminal investigation and Criminology.
