Objectives

- Framing the relationship between behavioral sciences and law, especially those that embody the discipline "forensic psychology"; - Know methods, techniques and tools for psychological evaluation and risk assessment in forensic settings; - Knowing specificities of psychological assessment in criminal and juvenile delinquency justice systems; - Being able to reflect on the legal, ethical and professional conduct in forensic settings; knowing main nosological diseases in forensic psychiatry

Learning outcomes and competences

- Knowledge about the fields of forensic psychology and forensic psychiatry;- Knowledge about best practices in forensic psychological assessment; - Skills to prepare basic forensic assessment plans; - Identification of the main instruments used in this fields; - Recognition of essential requirements for ethical and professional conduct

II - Forensic Psychological Assessment • Assessment issues in forensic psychology and clinical evaluation • Clinical Methods • Risk assessment tools • Ethical issues in psychological assessment • Expert witness and forensic reports

III - Forensic psychology in criminal procedings • Legal framework • Personality assessments and social reports • Eyewitness Testimony • Child abuse

IV - Forensic psychology in juvenile justice procedings • Legal framework • Personality assessments and social reports

V - Forensic psychiatry • Main nosological diseases in forensic settings • Pshychiatric expertise • Criminal responsability and insanity

Teaching methods and learning activities

Presentation of theoritical contents and pratical exercises (mainly in small groups).

Particular emphasis will be given to issues related to psychological and risk assessment in forensic settings. Simulated exercises includes evaluation processes, data collection (interviews, standardized tools) and reports.
