Objectives
The discipline of Methodology and Philosophy of Law (Jurisprudence) aims at an understanding of Law at a level beyond the strictly technical, having as its object the acquisition, by students, of critical tools indispensable for autonomous reflection upon this institution, which is at the same time attentive to its ethical, political, and general cultural dimensions.
This openness to different concerns, as well as being a touchstone of university study in general, is vital to the education of jurists, who ought properly to be more than mere technocrats: as is often said (to borrow a canonical sentence) “He who knows only the Law, knows not even the Law itself”.
Not only is it our purpose, therefore, to sketch a general outline of a number of topics selected from various areas of methodological and philosophic law, but also to open up an interdisciplinary dialogue between juridical thought and other modalities of thought and culture, as well as promoting personal and group research at a deeper level than has been made so far.
