Resumo (PT): O estudo desta dissertação de mestrado baseia-se na concepção de uma casa que reflecte as decisões tomadas na tentativa de responder às questões de como se quer viver ou onde se quer construir, procurando por uma ideia de arquitectura na experiência do espaço. O objectivo deste projecto foi criar um pátio subterrâneo, que oferece a experiência de retiro do mundo exterior. Embora se trate de um projecto pessoal, a sua relevância para a comunidade académica pode ser vista na sua exploração da identidade. Não se trata de responder à pergunta sobre o que é uma identidade ou o que significa, mas sim em demonstrar ou provar que o esforço e a procura incansável de fazer perguntas e a mera tentativa de as responder durante o processo foram essenciais para chegar a esta forma de pensar arquitectura, em que a relação entre o cliente e o arquitecto não é a de duas entidades separadas, mas antes vista como uma só. O cliente assume o papel de iniciador, facilitando a construção de um edifício no qual os seus desejos se concretizam e se tornam, por fim, numa realidade materializada. Esta dissertação de mestrado está estruturada em três “livros” principais que iluminam o percurso transformador da ideia de ser um cliente com as suas referências, onde o percurso pode começar com o cliente como um mero habitante do espaço ou, em alternativa, como um arquitecto a quem cabe a responsabilidade de traduzir uma ideia de se viver em forma física. Este processo resulta, em última análise, na manifestação física da identidade de cada um.

Abstract (EN): The study of this Master's thesis is based on the design of a house that reflects the decisions made in an attempt to answer the questions of how one wants to live or where one wants to build, searching for an idea of architecture in the experience of space. The purpose of this project was to create a subterranean patio, offering the experience of seclusion from the external world. Although it is a personal project, its relevance to the academic community can be seen in its exploration of identity. This is not to answer the question of what an identity means or is, but rather to demonstrate or prove that the efforts and the restless pursuit of asking questions and the mere attempt to answer them in the process were essential in arriving at this way of thinking architecture, where the relationship between the client and the architect are not that of two separate entities, but can be seen as one. The client assumes the role of the initiator, facilitating the construction of a building in which their desires are realized and ultimately become a materialized reality. This Master's thesis is structured in three principal "books" that illuminate the transformative journey undergone by the idea of being a client with their references, where the journey can begin with the client as a mere inhabitant of the space or, alternatively, as an architect whose responsibility it is to translate an idea of how to live in the space into physical form. This process ultimately leads to the physical manifestation of one's identity.
