Abstract (EN):
More than ever, caregiving is dependent on the update of knowledge and decision-making, which have to be conducted using recent scientific literature. The evolution of the information society transformed the access and use of information, boosting the development of networks and the sharing of information. Hospital libraries are information centres targeted at the scientific information needs of the clinicians, nurses and other healthcare staff. Moreover, they have a growing contribution to the health literacy of healthcare consumers and preventive care nowadays. This chapter will build on a retrospective view of a personal, lived-experience as a Head Librarian in a Regional Hospital in Portugal. The viewpoint of present experience as an academic and researcher completes the analysis.
