1 Research Grant (M/F)

Call open for applications for a research grant (Master's Degree) within the framework of project “Safe Cities - Innovation for Building Urban Safety”, with the reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-041435 (SP4_162), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (COMPETE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Computer Science, Informatics, Network and Information Systems Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering
Admission requirements:
  1. To have a Masters degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Network and Information Systems Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related area.
  2. To be enrolled in PhD or Post-Graduation
Hiring Requirements: If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract.
The candidate who will obtain a place placed in an eligible place for the final approved contracting of the present bidding process, will run an non-extendable period of 20 working days, counted from the notification of the final approved final ordering, for presentations, at the FCUP Human Resources, requests the conclusion of the contract.
Failure to comply with the provisions of the preceding paragraph determines the exclusion from the contest.
Work plan: The work to be done concerns the research and development of mobile applications for indoor localization, ad hoc communications, and emergency evacuation of buildings. The tasks to be performed involve design and development of software and algorithms. This work also involves coordination with external partners who will work on the project.

The tasks can be adjusted depending on its feasibility in the project. All changes implying the grant holder´s work in other tasks will be submitted to prior approval of the funding authority AICEP.
Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 123/2019, of 28th August; Regulation Nº. 950/2019 of 29th November (Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt)); Law Nº. 66/2018, of 16th August (Legal Regime for Recognition of Academic Degrees and Higher Education Diplomas awarded by Foreign Higher Education Institutions).
Work place: The work will developed at the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), under the scientific supervision of Professors Eduardo Resende Brandão Marques, Luís Miguel Barros Lopes, Rui Pedro de Magalhães Claro Prior, and Sérgio Armindo Lopes Crisóstomo and on an exclusive basis.
Grant duration: Initial duration of 6 months, with beginning on November 2020, eventually renewable up to the end of the project.
Payments:
  1. The grant stipend amounts to 1064,00¤ according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt ) Payment will be made by bank transfer.
  2. Voluntary Social Insurance: As long as the scholarship lasts 6 months or more, and in compliance with the provisions of article 10 of Law no. 40/2004, the scholarship holder will be entitled to assume, by FCUP, the charges resulting from contributions that apply to the first of the steps referred to in article 36 of Decree-Law no. 40/89, of 1 February, with the increase in charges arising from the option for a higher incidence base on its own.
  3. In addition to this allowance, the fellow will be covered by personal accident insurance.
 
Selection procedure: The selection methods to be used are as follows:
•        Curricular analysis (includes scientific publications, research experience in ad hoc wireless networks, indoor localization, mobile applications, and graph algorithms) -70%
•        Interview – 30%. Only candidates with a positive curriculum evaluation will be invited for an interview
The jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship in competition if the result of the evaluation of the applications and their suitability for the project's objectives is not satisfactory.

Advertisement/notification of final decision: The results of the evaluation, ordered by final classification, will be released to the candidates by email.
Deadline for applications and form of presentation of the applications:
The deadline for submitting applications will be 10 days from the date of publication of the Research Grant Announcement. The Applications must be formalized, in the subject, by email to ebmarques@fc.up.pt and to recrutamento@fc.up.pt, indicating the reference in the subject (162 Master Fellowship (FCUP) No. 5 Sub-Project 4 ), accompanied by the following documents: Motivation letter, Certificate of academic qualifications, detailed Curriculum Vitae and other relevant documents.
The documents are requested to be attached directly to the application message without links to external platforms / drives. To ensure that all documents are read, the preferred recording format is Portable Document Format (.pdf).
