Special Higher Education Admission Procedures 2012/2013

Special selection and admission procedures exist for applicants for higher education with the following qualifications:
  • Selection process specially designed to evaluate the abilities of applicants above 23 years of age;
  • There is a special selection process for those applicants already holding degrees of higher education, post-secondary and middle level degrees as stipulated in Article 10 of Decree-Law 393-B/99
In any one academic year, a student may only submit an application in one special admission process.
Applications are only valid for the year in which they are filed.

There is a special admissions process to evaluate applicants above 23 years of age.


Scope
There is a special selection process to evaluate applicants above 23 years of age, created by Decree-Law nº 64/2004 of 21 March.
Degrees to which such candidates may apply
Applicants under the special conditions for older students (+23 years of age) may only apply:
  • to the institution where they took their exam
  • to an analogous course in another institution of higher learning provided that it is authorised by the legally and recognised entity within that institution, following the careful study of the applicant’s file and upon his/her request.
Ranking Criteria
The criteria listed will be used in the following order for ranking applicants:
1. Final marks in descending order on special admissions exams (candidates 23 + years);
2. The year in which the exam was successfully taken, with priority given to the earliest date.
Applications
Applicants must present, under pain of exclusion, the following documents:
  • Application Form;
  • Photocopy of Identity Card, Citizen’s Card or Passport;
  • Power of attorney, if applicable;
  • Certificate of successful completion of the special exams to ascertain preparedness for higher educational studies for applicants above 23 years of age (to be waived in the event that the student has completed this exam at the educational entity applied to).
The application must be handed into the Undergraduate Department of this Faculty, together with an application fee of 55 ¤ (as per the UP Fee Schedule).



Article 10 of Decree-Law 393-B/99 establishes special admission procedures for applicants already holding degrees of higher education, post-secondary and middle level degrees.


Scope
This admissions process is designated for:
  • holders of a university degree;
  • holders of degrees in extinct courses such as Teacher’s College, Early Childhood Education and General Nursing who are able to prove both their secondary level diploma, a diploma complementary to a secondary degree or the successful completion of the 10th/11th year of secondary studies;
  • holders of a specialised diploma in technology.
NB: (a) Candidates holding a Specialised Technological Diploma (CET) who wish to apply to a special first cycle admissions at FCUP should submit their CET diploma for certification by the Scientific Board of this Faculty together with an application (as stipulated in Article nº 12 of Resolution 16/04/2008, of the Coordinating Committee).
Ranking Criteria
1. The criteria listed will be used in the following order for ranking applicants:
a) Depending on the applicants in question, the average marks of the degree or medium level degree in decreasing order;
b) The level and the diploma, with successive priority given to holders of second level degrees, students who have attended non-diploma courses of higher education, holders of degrees such as the former ‘bacharelato’ or ‘licenciado';
2. In the event that the mark average referred to in item a) of Article nº 1 appears on the certificate with a decimal point equal to or higher than 5, the mark shall be rounded to the immediately following higher number.
Applications
Applicants must submit the following documents:
  • Application Form;
  • Photocopy of Identity Card, Citizen’s Card or Passport;
  • Power of attorney, if applicable;
  • Proof of degree with all the necessary elements for judging the application;
The application must be handed into the Undergraduate Department of this faculty, together with an application fee of 55 ¤ (as per the UP Fee Schedule).
