The course aims to provide thorough hands-on experience for students to perform and understand modern analytical instrumentation and execute validation procedures for chemical measurements.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be:
1 Able to apply the modern sample treatment and preparation techniques;
2 Able to apply the analytical procedures based on atomic and uv-vis spectroscopy, gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography;
3 Able to perform chemical data analysis;
4 Able to perform a method validation;
5 Able to report a validation of an analytical method.
Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry, instrumental methods of analysis and validation methods
The teaching of this unit takes place through laboratory sessions.
In the laboratory sessions, the students carry out experimental works illustrative of the topics of the program, whose results and main conclusions will be presented in a written report.
Students will also have to search the literature for additional articles and book chapters relevant to experimental works carry out in the laboratory.

Terms of frequency: Student attendance to the practical classes and laboratory sessions is mandatory.
1 Those students whose attendance is lower than 3/4 of the laboratory sessions planned are considered without attendance.
2 All students must carry out the experimental work with a positive performance and submit the final written report.
Final mark= distributed evaluation (65%) + final exam (35%).
The distributed evaluation is based on laboratory report and laboratory performance. Report is designed to measure how well the students have learned the theory and application in instrumental methods validation.
The examination is designed to test students' competency in acquiring the intended learning outcomes of the laboratory course. Student abilities in the data treatment and interpretation will be evaluated.
For the students with final mark greater than 17, there will be an extra oral exam in order to confirm, or not, the final mark.
