Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this course the student should be able:
- to develop skills in planning and developing a research theme (fundamental, applied or both) in the area of science and technology of nanomaterials
- to work both autonomously and in connection with a teamwork;
- to develop oral and written communication skills, in order to present and discuss a scientific report of the research carried out along the semester.

Program
A scientific research project will be carried out throughout the semester, with the integration of the student in a research group, on a topic in the area of science and technology of nanomaterials. The supervision team (one or two elements) must include a professor (supervisor or co-supervisor) from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and this element must be from one of the following departments: Chemistry and Biochemistry (DQB), or Physics and Astronomy (DFA), or Computer Science (DCC). It is mandatory to prepare a dissertation that will be presented and discussed before a jury.
Mandatory literature

Comments from the literature
Given the nature of this course, there is no recommended bibliography. Depending on the nature of the work, the student and the supervisors shall choose/define the general and specific bibliography related to the project.
Teaching methods and learning activities
The work is fundamentally practical (experimental and/or computational), using experimental techniques and methods provided by the supervision team and the research group in which the student will be integrated. At the end of the semester, the student must present a scientific dissertation that will be publicly defended before a jury. The final classification awarded by the jury will take into account the work developed, the dissertation presented and the performance in the public exam.
