Objectives
The main objective of this course is the preparation and planning by the student regarding the development of the chosen Dissertation (or Internship) project, thus involving: bibliographic research and elaboration of the state-of-the-art; work planning in theoretical and experimental terms (including main experimental techniques and methodologies); and, possibly, the collection of preliminary experimental results.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this course the students should be able to:
- to plan the different stages of research on an emerging topic in the field of nanomaterials science and technology according to their scientific interests and aimed at the subsequent development of a dissertation/internship;
- carry out advanced bibliographic research within the chosen research theme;
- present a coherent and articulated synthesis of the state of the art in the chosen theme, plan of work and, possibly, some preliminary results obtained;
- develop oral and written communication skills in the research and planning work carried out.

Program
This course will consist of the theoretical and experimental planning and preparation, carried out throughout the semester, oriented towards the scientific research project (Dissertation) or applied development/innovation project (Internship) in the area of science and technology of nanomaterials. The work to be carried out by the student will involve: bibliographic research and elaboration of the state-of-the-art; study and discussion of scientific articles; eventually, preliminary experimental work obtained; and, obligatorily, preparation of a monograph and oral presentation of the work developed. This UC will be monitored by the student's Dissertation/Internship supervisors and by the elements of the scientific committee of the master. The work developed (monograph and oral presentation) will be presented and discussed at the end of the semester before the jury of the course.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The course will include: in-depth bibliographic research on the Dissertation/Internship theme chosen by the student, involving scientific databases; study of scientific articles and presentation of experimental methodologies suitable for the development of the work; characterization of the state of the art; theoretical and experimental project planning; possibility of carrying out preliminary experimental work; preparation of a monograph based on the studies carried out; final oral presentation. This process will be accompanied and supervised by the supervisors of the Dissertation/Internship project and by the elements of the scientific committee of the master.
