Analyse, interpret and integrate knowledge to understand the Earth System, relative components and subsystems and their interactions.
To provide the understanding of processes and products of the Earth geodynamics and their interrelationships.
To acquire ability to interpret the regional geology of the national territory as the result of the dynamism of our planet.
Learn geological cartography and fieldwork methodologies and develop educational applications.
1 - The Earth system and its components and interactions. 2 - The tectonic system and the Wilson cycle in the context of the plate tectonics; paleogeographic reconstitution of the evolution of the Earth in general, and of Iberia in particular, throughout geological times; considerations on climate changes and eustatism. 3 - Tectonics and orogenies: orogenies and formation and typology of sedimentary basins; sismicity and main causes and products. 4 - Lithological cycle: distinctive characterization of different types of rocks. 5 – General aspects of Geology of Portugal: main geomorphological, geotectonic units, and tectonostratigraphic terrains. 6 - Analysis and interpretation of geological cartography of the Geology of Portugal. 7 - Field work from a scientific and didactic perspective, involving lithological characterization of different types of rocks (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary), characterization and identification of planar and linear structures, and interpretation of chronological relationships between lithologies and structures. 8 - Sedimentological and geomorphological characterization; relationships with current coastal geomorphology.
Expositive lectures with interaction teacher/student. PowerPoint presentation. Theoretical-practical classes of research work and investigation in groups and individually. Field work.
