Research Fellowship (M / F)
Is open to award of a research grant for a Master under the Project: EAPA_174/2016 - 3DPARE - Artificial Reef 3D Printing for Atlantic Area, financed by Interreg Espaço Atlântico - Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional, under the following conditions:
Field of study: Marine Biology and ecology
- Master in biology, marine or environmental science or related discipline
- Diving certificate and documented diving experience
- Willingness and ability to work at sea, both in the intertidal and subtidal
- Good English skills both verbal and writing
Requirements for hiring: If the plan has been awarded by the Higher Education Institute, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2017, and the information contained in the hiring data must be formally registered.
Conditions of preference:
- Experience in underwater field work, specially in benthic rocky ecosystems as kelp forests
- Experience in seaweed stock assessment
Monitoring of natural reefs, mostly of the coast in Portugal but possibly also in other countries. Test different materials and how they are colonized both at sea and in laboratory experiments. Assist in the planning and deployment of the artificial reefs built in Portugal. Monitor artificial reefs and determine patterns of colonization. Do the environmental monitoring of the region where the reefs will be deployed. Write reports and scientific publication. Present project results in scientific meetings and in project meetings with stakeholders. Other related tasks of the project or group.
Workplace: The work will be developed at the University of Porto (Faculdade de Ciências) with possible short stays in other countries, mainly in Europe.
Duration of the Grant: 6 months eventually renewed, starting in April 2019.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to ¤989,70.
The payment will be performed by bank transfer.
Selection methods: Evaluation of cv (50%) and of the experience of the candidates in the diving required (50%). Eventually the best candidates can be asked for an interview for decision between the most suited candidates (40% of final grade) and the evaluation carried out has a weight of 60%".
