Objectives

To encourage students' autonomous work, as well as illustrating both the critical thinking and the familiarity with the scientific research and its promotion.

Learning outcomes and competences

Ability to synthesize and understand both the main aspects and the propelling ideas supporting the mathematical results, instead of spending all the effort in the mastering of every technical detail. Ability to structure of either a well guided oral presentation or an essay to report on a research work in Mathematics.

Program

Presentation, critical analysis and discussion of scientific papers.

Whenever possible, the topics covered will be suggested by the students' supervisors. This way, the syllabus will be better linked to the already started student's dissertations. The apposite list of references will be the most adequate to each student's mathematical interests.
