Teaching language

We pretend that students learn enough to be able to understand fundamental questions related to Nuclear Chemistry.New tecnologies, energetic aplications and also its use for answer medical, biologic, chemistry and geologic problems.

Learning outcomes and competences

We hope that students be able to understand different kind of nuclear reactions , and also its application in several branches of science.

Working method

1- Introduction
2- Atomic Nuclei
3- Equatioons of radioactive decay and growth.
4- Interation of radiation with matter
5 - Radiation detection and measurements.
6 - Radioactive decay processes.
7- Nuclear models.
8- Nuclear reactions.
9- Nuclear energy.
10- Aplication of nuclear processes in medicin, chemisty, biology, geology, and astrophysics.

Mandatory literature

G.Friedland, J, W. Kennedy, E. S. Macias, J.M. Miller,; " Nuclear and Radiochemisrty " , Wiley, New York, 1981

Teaching methods and learning activities

In theoretical classes subjects are explained and disscussed. The chp.10 is exposed in student' works. The practical  theoretical classes numerical problems are discussed and resolved.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

designation Weight (%)
Teste 70,00
Trabalho escrito 30,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 28,00
Frequência das aulas 56,00
Trabalho escrito 10,00
