The main objective of the lectures is to provide a broad overview of Bioinformatics.
In the practical classes the students will develop small research projects.
Expertise in the use of bioinformatic tools and softwares. Capacity to identify bioactive compounds by virtual screening. Expertise in macromolecule modelling. Capacity for choosing the most adequate bioinformatic tool for each biochemical problem.
Lectures.
1. Bioinformatics vs. computational biochemistry.
2. Quantum Mechanics
3. Quantum Mechanics vs Classical Mechanics

Attendance of 75% of the practical classes and presentation of final report on work done.
Final exam.
The final mark corresponds to the average of the mark obtained in the exam and the mark given in the practical classes and corresponding report made by the student.
The mark obtained in the exam mostly reflects the result of the final exam, which is scheduled by the Conselho Pedagógico of the Faculty. The mark might be slightly adjusted by the personal evaluation that the lecturer does during the lectures. The weight of the exam for the final mark is 50%.
The practical mark is the result of the final report the student makes (30% for the total mark) and the personal evaluation the teacher performs during the practical classes (20% for the total mark).
Detailed report on work done in the practical classes.
Repeating the final exam.
