R & D
Although this is an institution with a Research Unit on Nutrition (UIN) under development, which applied in April 2002 to FCT but has not been approved yet, FCNAUP has been undertaking high quality research activities. Several projects in FCNAUP include teaching staff from other Faculties or Universities (national and international), provided for example with laboratories and/or financed projects. This has enabled and streamlined cooperation activities among teachers. The main sources of funding are: Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) - 9 projects; Instituto de Ciência e Tecnologia Agrárias e Agroalimentares (ICETA) - 1 project; European Union - 11 projects; Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian - 1 project; Instituto de Bebidas e Saúde (IBESA) - 6 projects; Comissão de Fomento da Investigação em Cuidados de Saúde of the Ministry of Health - 3 projects. 11 non-funded projects are under development.
The first PhD exams took place in June 1998. 3 teachers and a non-teacher accomplished their PhD. Presently the Faculty has 8 PhD students and 46 Master students.
