Master in Clinical Nutrition

Description:

O Mestrado em Nutrição Clínica é uma pós–graduação destinada a profissionais de saúde (nutricionistas, dietistas, enfermeiros, farmacêuticos e médicos) com uma forte componente clínica, suportada em conceitos teóricos aprofundados necessários à sua adequada compreensão e aplicação.

O ciclo de estudos tem a duração de 3 semestres, sendo que os dois primeiros constituem a componente curricular do ciclo de estudos (60 ECTS) que confere direito a um diploma do curso em Nutrição Clínica não conferente de grau. O 3.º semestre é reservado para a execução de uma dissertação (30 ECTS) que após discussão, avaliação e aprovação permite a obtenção do grau de Mestre.

O ciclo de estudos está acreditado pela Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior.

Courses Units

Statistical Analysis

NC1109 - ECTS This curricular unit aims to provide the students with knowledge to understand the statistical analysis applied in scientific publications, in particular scientific papers.
Statistical Analysis also aims to deepen the knowledge in hypothesis testing and to train students to use the correct univariate and bivariate statistical tests to perform their own data analysis.
Furthermore, it is desirable that students are able to interpret and assess critically the choice of statistical tools and the conclusions drawn from the results of studies.
Additionally, Statistical Analysis aims to provide students with basic knowledge regarding multivariate analysis.

Energy Balance and Body Composition

NC1102 - ECTS

1. To obtain knowledge and skills in the assessment of energy needs, food intake, and analysis of nutrient intake.

2. To obtain the knowledge and skills in anthropometric and body composition assessment.

3. To know how to interpret the findings and to choose and to apply methodology based on scientific evidence.

Principles of Nutrition

NC1101 - ECTS

To study Nutritional Biochemistry, Nutritional Physiology, Fluid and Electrolyte Balance and Nutritional imunology in the scope of clinical nutrition.

Research Methods

NC1104 - ECTS

To empower the students with theoretical and practical knowledge in the following topics:

- Methodology of epidemiological research

- Methodology of clinical research

- Methodology of laboratory animal research

- Scientific communication and publication

- Bibliographic management in research

- Basic notions for the elaboration of scientific projects for application for funding

Clinical Nutrition I

NC1111 - ECTS To provide comprehensive knowledge on the pharmaco nutrient interaction, on biochemical evaluation and interpretation of analytical data relevant to nutritional assessment. To provide advanced knowledge clinical situations in the pediatric area as well as on obesity and adult diabetes

Geriatrics Nutrition

NC1110 - ECTS Provide comprehensive knowledge about the provision of food to elderly care.

Artificial Nutrition

NC1203 - ECTS

The curriculum unit aims to deepen theoretical knowledge in the field of artificial nutrition, allowing students to achieve the level of fundamental knowledge essential to the development of clinical and scientific skills in intervention and research. It is intended that the student completed the course, have sufficient skills to, in a professional context, prescribing, guiding and adapting autonomously and responsibly, artificial nutrition in different clinical situations, in both adults and children, and has powers to efficiently develop clinical research in extension to clinical intervention.

 

Clinical Nutrition II

NC1211 - ECTS The curriculum unit aims to deepen theoretical knowledge under various pathological and clinical situations, allowing students to achieve the level of knowledge essential to the development of clinical and scientific skills, fundamental in clinical intervention and research. It is intended that the student, completed the unit, have sufficient skills to, in a professional context and in the area of food / nutrition, clinically intervene, recognizing, diagnosing and intervening in each clinical situation, independently and conscientiously, and has skills to efficiently develop clinical research in extension to clinical intervention.

Dissertation Project

NC1210 - ECTS To develop the abilities intrinsic to the elaboration of a research project with the duration of one semester.

Current Themes in Nutrition

NC1204 - ECTS

To write of an original review work regarding a current theme in Clinical Nutrition and to make an oral presentation.

To broaden the knowledge in several areas of Clinical Nutrition, in particular in the area reviewed by the student's work.

To deepen the knowledge in a specific theme in Clinical Nutrition that may be used afterwards when preparing the student's Project and Dissertation.
