Objectives

This course is dedicated to the study of computational systems and the design of the interaction with them.

Learning outcomes and competences

This course unit studies project practices for interaction design, focusing particularly on user-centered design and on design patterns, used as tools for the study and critical analysis of interactive systems. The course also studies methodologies for the evaluation of the usability of systems and for the design of user experience.

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Proficiency in the use of vector and bitmap image software is required (eg. Adobe Illustrator e Photoshop)

Program

This course is organized into three sequential modules, starting with the fundamentals of Interaction Design and developing: 1) research & documentation; 2) prototyping; 3) evaluation.

The laboratorial component, will have as groundwork the R&D projects of the professors.

In each module we reserve time for exposition, reflection, discussion and the development of exercises associated to each module, but not limited to the following topics:

  • Introduction do Human-Computer Interaction, through the lens of User-Centered Design;
  • Sprint Methodology based on the User-Centered Design;
  • Analysis and documentation of the user experience;
  • Visual Design and Interaction principles & patterns;
  • Heuristic and Usability evaluation;
  • Content organization and information architecture;
  • Composition, layout and information visualization;
  • Methodologies for the interaction design project.
