Objectives

In partnership with UPTEC, this Curricular Unit has the general objectives of equipping students with basic skills for project management integrated into large and multidisciplinary teams considering financial analysis.

Other objectives of the course are to raise students' awareness about creating their own projects, presenting tools to support the design of business models and strategies (from the introduction of Business Model Canvas to intellectual property), culminating in techniques and business communication tools and presentation in public.

Learning outcomes and competences


  • Identify and analyze different business models;


  • Understand mechanisms related to intellectual property, including open licensing options (such as Creative Commons);


  • To know tools of support to the design planning, management of teams and financial analysis;


  • Understand and implement effective communication and dissemination mechanisms with clients and partners.

In partnership with UPTEC, this Curricular Unit is systematized into three main blocks whose themes complement each other and the acquisition of skills is evaluated formatively:

Slot 1


  • Kick-off
    Presentation of real problems of UPTEC companies; constitution of the teams and selection of the problem / solution to be worked by each one;


  • Business model
    Presentation of the Business Model Canvas as a tool to support the design of the business model;


  • Mentoring
    Laboratory session / preparation for the first presentation.
    Topics to develop: Who are we ?; What problem are we trying to solve ?; Who is (are) our target audience (s)? Who are our competitors ?; What do we know about it ?; What is our value proposition ?; What is our business model?


  • Presentation
    According to the parameters listed in the mentoring.


Slot 2


  • Intellectual property
    Introductory session on intellectual property as a strategic business tool, with special attention to copyright and alternative open licenses;


  • Project Management: Planning; Team; Business
    Brief introduction to project management, addressing issues of planning, team management and budget control;


  • Mentoring
    Laboratory session / preparation for the second presentation.
    Topics to develop: Who are we / team? What problem (s) are we trying to solve / market ?; What is the value proposition ?; What is the Intellectual Property strategy ?; What is the business model ?; What has been accomplished so far ?; What's the plan for the next six months?


  • Presentation
    According to the parameters listed in the mentoring.


Slot 3


  • Communication and Pitch
    Presentation and discussion of some techniques and tools of business communication as well as formats and skills of presentation in public;


  • Mentoring
    Laboratory session / preparation for the third presentation.
    Topics to be developed: Opening; History / Team; Problem / Market; Solution; Mission; View; Business model; What was accomplished ?; Road Map; Next steps;


  • Presentation

Teaching methods and learning activities

The classes will have an expository and laboratory component, in an essentially operational approach, analyzing the exposed scientific and technical contents and consolidating sensibilities and competences by means of the exercises in class and respective presentations prepared in laboratory sessions with mentoring.

  • Attendance is mandatory in at least 75% of classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

Evaluation distributed in three expository moments:


  • 1st Presentation: 25%


  • 2nd Presentation: 25%


  • 3rd Presentation: 50%


 
The evaluation, in its three moments, also considers the qualitative assessment of UPTEC representatives, regarding the specific parameters of the evaluation.


Obs.: Attendance is mandatory in at least 75% of classes.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Considering the distributed evaluation methodology without final exam, in a context of partnership with UPTEC, this curricular unit is not subject to evaluation in a single moment. Consequently, the student who enjoys a special regime of attendance must, without exception, combine with the teacher the most appropriate approach for monitoring the work and validating the competences acquired. The nonconformity with this condition, results in the impossibility of certifying knowledge, culminating in the student's disapproval.

Classification improvement

Considering the distributed evaluation methodology without final exam, in a context of partnership with UPTEC, this curricular unit is not liable to be evaluated in a single moment, conditioning the improvement of the classification for a new school year.
