Objectives

- Introduction to the techniques and technologies from digital media;
- Application of digital media in artistic practice context;
- Technology and workshop fundamentals for that practice;
- Know the mechanisms and processes relatives to the audio-visual production with digital media;
- Development of exercises and projects that solidify both technical and theoretical knowledge about the operation of digital media;
- Creating broadened habits and work methodologies while valuing experimentation.

Learning outcomes and competences

- The results and skills will be fitted in the environment of introduction to the technologies and in the context of artistic practice.

Program

Digital image - bitmap and vector;

Intro to the techniques of producing digital images;

Properties of the different apparatus used in digital production:

- foundations of hardware, software and peripheral devices;

- basic notions of processing digital images;

- introduction to the study of color (additive and subtractive).

Production, import and export of images:

- dimension and resolution;

- compression;

- storage;

- image formats;

- suports;

- printing;

- playback;

- processing and rendering;

- editing;

- scanning opaque and transparent images and digital cameras.

 

Creating, appropriation, editing and manipulation  of static and moving images:

- Import, editing and export;

- Compositing, cutting;

- Application, editing and post-production;

Teaching methods and learning activities

Introduction to the main materials and techniques often used in the creation of digital images, as well as introduction to the specific languages associated to them. Guided assignments where the proposals are oriented towards laboratorial knowledge, with the goal of stimulating different levels of experimentation. The corse content will be studied with the support of visual references and specific literature, giving a framework to support student’s proposals and stimuli for creative work.
