|Theoretical and practical :
This course will be presented strategies and theories on urban regeneration and city consolidated city inherited asset valuation and its territorial units landscape.
Will be analyzed and discussed concepts of the historical center of urban architecture and landscape heritage, as well as its relationship to urban practice. The study of interventions in the historical and consolidated in the city will be developed in view of the dynamic transformation of the contemporary city, with its economic and social dimension, to reassessing the concept of town center and its relation to the process of defining new centralities, highlighting the need to understand the values that refer to the current concept of the historical center in the face of a dynamic polycentrism cannot abandon the economic and social dimension of the city as a whole.
Learning outcomes and competences
It is intended to enable the student to build a broader idea of property within the meaning of value for the formation of collective memory and the understanding of the complexity that any methodology of urban heritage in the project intervention ends, given the social dynamics that accompany the their own development.
1 - Territory, city and heritage - disciplinary framework, research and characterization, analysis and identification - interrogative methods and sources; - techniques and research methods; - problems, issues and interpretative bases.
2 - City and urban setting material in historical time: - the historical process and urban form; - levels and times of social intervention in the city (political, economic and technical) - configurative phases of the materiality of urban space (ownership, urban development and building) ; - urban fabric and the physical dimension of historical time.
3 - City, rehabilitation and heritage - theory and practice among nineteenth and twentieth century’s (major cases in the European capital cities); importance of the great wars in the formation of policy and technical framework of urban regeneration, the concept of evolution from the historical center second half of the twentieth century.
4 - City contemporary and historical center - time value and meaning - assistance methods and delimitation of the historic centers of the contemporary city, - processes of intervention in the historic centers of cities, the specific action relating to the overall strategy (Bologna, Rome , Brescia, Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, Porto, Guimaraes, Évora and Lisbon, among other cases) - procedures for the participation of people in plans for safeguarding historic centers; - economic value of the qualification of the historic centers as a tool of urban regeneration; - monument, the historic and historic urban structures (concepts of urban and stay constant).
5 - Memory and Heritage - city, territory and landscape: - concepts and contemporary issues of memory, - permanence and update ("arts of memory") - memory and rebuilding urban (recentrocidade) - sheet identity of territorial units and landscaped asset value (rural clusters).
Teaching methods and learning activities
The unit will develop in times of expository nature, in times of questioning and debate on matters presented and times of deepening specific issues (requested by research in progress) or reflection, and critical analysis of specific cases, with the presence of guest lecturers.
Assessment is continuous and includes the quality of participation in the times of questioning and debate, the preparation and presentation-chip synthesis of lessons (on request) and the preparation and submission of an individual work of theoretical synthesis on a topic or a case study.

Eligibility for exams
The student attends with attendance of 75% of classes and with the classification of 9,5 values in the invidual final evaluation exercise.
Calculation formula of final grade
It is prerequisite Course attendance of at least 75% attendance of practical classes.
The final score of the classification results of individual written report, presented and discussed, in the range 0-20.
