Maria Candela Suárez, Professor at the University Lusíada Norte-Porto, is the guest for the fourth session of the 'Aulas de Autor. Le Corbusier and Drawing' cycle of lectures.

This fourth conference of the cycle will take place on April 21, Friday, 6h30 pm, at Casa Cor-de-Rosa – FAUP.

Workshop:
22 and 23 April (Saturday and Sunday)
Drawing Room - FAUP

a) Saturday 9h00 am to 1h00 pm and 2h30 to 7h30 pm (group working session);
b) Sunday 9h00 am to 1h00 pm (presentation of results)

Participation is for free but registration for the workshop is necessary (application form).
The application deadline is 20 April 2017.

Maria Candela Suárez
Graduated in Architecture at the National University of Mar del Plata (1999) and PhD from the Department of Architectural Projects of ETSAB, UPC (2007). Assistant Professor in the Lusíada Norte-Porto University (from 2014), Fernando Pessoa University (where she teached the seminar I - "Le Corbusier, rascunho e passado a limpo”, 2014-2016) and University of Beira Interior (2008-2012). She was a lecturer and speaker in Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Switzerland and United States. Her investigations - focusing on critical analysis of domestic architecture of Le Corbusier and his creative process - were funded, among other international scholarships, with the “Bourse de Recherche pour Jeunes Chercheurs” (Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris, 2003-2004) and the “Mixed Doctoral Fellowship Type I” (CONICET, Argentina, 2001-2006). She participated in the “24 N.C. – Residence de chercheurs 2014” of the Le Corbusier Foundation (2003, 2006, 2016). Her scientific production is in chapters of books and articles (Massilia, Le Corbusier Plans, Le Corbusier Plans: Impressions, among others). She participated in the editing of the documentary "Le Corbusier en la India: Ahmedabad y el Capitolio Chandigarh" (Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, Spain) and contributor for the exhibition and book-catalog “Le Corbusier et le livre” (Col·legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya, Spain). She conducted an investigation by private demand on the Unité d'Habitation à Marseille for the production of the set of exposed scale models in the Cité de l'Architecture de Paris). She is preparing a critical edition of Polychromie architecturale of Le Corbusier, in Spanish and Portuguese, with an introduction by Arthur Ruegg. She was a Member of the Scientific Committee for the International Congress “Le Corbusier 50 years after” (Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain, November 2015). She is the scientific coordinator in Portugal of the exhibition Le Corbusier “Paris n'est pas Moscou” (Casa das Artes, Porto, November-December 2017) and is, at the same time, preparing a critical edition of Polychromie architecturale of Le Corbusier, in Spanish and Portuguese, with an introduction by Arthur Ruegg.


Aulas de Autor . Le Corbusier and the Drawing
The second cycle of classes entitled "Le Corbusier and the Drawing", taking place during this academic year 2016-2017, aims to develop a new relationship between universities, RDT (research and Technological Development) Institutions and Foundations.
In this first year, a partnership with Fondation Le Corbusier was settled in order to bring to the Portuguese and Porto scenario the international debate on Corbusian studies and on drawing in Le Corbusier, in particular.

A series of seven open classes will take place between January and July of 2017, dedicated to the theoretical and practical study of the Drawing in the work of Le Corbusier. 

The conferences feature as guest speakers: Danièle Pauly, Timothy Benton, Marta Sequeira, Candela Suárez, Jorge Torres, Xavier Monteys and Ricardo Daza. This cycle of open classes "Aulas de Autor" "Le Corbusier and the Drawing" is coordinated by Marta Sequeira, Carlos Machado e Moura, Rui Neto and Noémia Herdade Gomes.

This cycle is developed by the research group Architecture: Theory, Project and History (ATPH)of the Center for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU-FAUP)- within the project ‘Coleção de Desenhos . Escola de Arquitectura do Porto’, – , in collaboration with UPdigital (UPdigital), Faculties of Arts (FLUP) and Engineering U.Porto (FEUP), José Marques da Silva Foundation Institute (FIMS), Northern Chapter of the Portuguese Order of Architects (OASRN) and Sistema do Futuro – Multimédia, Gestão e Arte.
