Sport is one of the fields where the duty of overcoming and transcending is fulfilled. In Sport, we exhaust the possible field; we become close the distant, tangible the intangible, real the ideal. Feet and hands do on the outside, what before was conceived and anticipated inside by the intelligence and by the reason, by the will and by the heart Jorge Bento. |
Welcome to FADEUP!
The Faculty of Sport, University of Porto (FADEUP) is located in Polo III of Porto University (Polo Asprela). It offers a solid education, following the needs of today's society, and seeks to train professionals capable and highly qualified in the various fields of training and sports intervention.
The FADEUP has its genesis in other training institutions in Physical Education and Sport, which preceded it. In 1964 it started the operation of a course of physical education instructors who formed the core of the School of Physical Education Instructors of Porto, established in 1969. These first initiatives in training were at the middle level education.
The year of 1975 marks the transition from training in physical education to university education, being born the Institute of Physical Education, part of the University of Porto (ISEF-UP), which starts its operation on July 1st, 1976.
In 1989 ISEF-UP is renamed to Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education, University of Porto (FCDEF-UP) and in 2005, with the revision of the Statutes of the University of Porto, is adopted the current designation FADEUP.
FADEUP approaches the sport in its plurality of meanings and forms, offering to its students a diverse educational offer of high quality and accuracy. This orientation, combined with the strong focus on research, credits to FADEUP a high status of consideration in a national and international level.
According to its statutes (D.R., 2nd series - paragraph 3 - January 6, 2010)...
FADEUP's mission is teaching, training, study and research in the field of sport, being sport understood as a plural and diverse object, that is, as polysemic phenomenon and polymorphic manifestation, as well as in related and correlated activities, aimed at practice exercising, recreation, re-education and rehabilitation, development and improvement, performance and transcendence of the human condition.
