The purposes of this curricular unit are:
- To provide an outline of contemporary thinking.
- To adjust contemporary thinking to the questions raised by sport sciences.
- To understand the major importance of aesthetics and ethics to the understanding of sports.
- To undestand sports in the context of a universal ontology.
Unit I : Aesthetics of Sports
1. Sports, aesthetics and art
2. Sports considered as an aesthetic activity
3. Factors and aesthetic categories that shape the aesthetic value of sports
4. The aesthetic experience induced by sports
Unit II: Ethics in Sports
1. Portrait of the contemporary man
2. Sports, poetry and philosophy
3. Sports as a “human workshop”
4. University as the locus of human fulfilment
5. Ethical imperatives of sports
Unit III: The contemporary body
1. The axiological, cultural, anthropological and ontological body
2. The narcissus myth and the perfect body
3. The embodied logos and the sense of incorporation
4. The body industries
Theoretical classes: the expository method prevails, although there is an effort to place the student in the center of the teaching process, promoting interaction and developing the need for research and critical reflection on the topics discussed.
Practical classes: reflection and discussion of issues covered in class through texts, pictures and movies, presentation of group work, promoting autonomy, responsibility and critical thinking.

Theoretical component: 50%. Final exam.
Practical component: 50 %. Students must accomplish two practical works during the semester within continuous assessment. Attendance of 75% of classes.
