INTERNATIONAL STUDENT | Special Competition of Access and Admission

School Year 2018/2019

DEFINITION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

  1. For the purposes of this competition it is an international student the student who does not have Portuguese nationality;
  2. There are not covered by the definition of international student, specified in the preceding paragraph:
    1. The nationals’ students of a Member State of the European Union;
    2. Students who are not nationals of a Member State of the European Union but are legally residing  in Portugal for more than 2 years, uninterruptedly, on 31st August of the year in which they intend to enter higher education, as well as any children who reside with them Legally;
    3. The students that who require admission to higher education through the special access and admission regimes regulated by Decree-Law no. 393-A / 99, of October 2nd, modified by Decree-Law no. 272/2009, of October 1st.

NOTICE: Students who are covered by point b. of paragraph 2 shall attach supporting documents issued by the competent authority.

International students maintain this quality until the end of the course of study in which they were initially enrolled or transferred, except for those who in the meantime acquire the nationality of a member state of the European Union, in which case the termination of application of international student status shall take effect in the school year subsequent to the date of acquisition of the nationality.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Specific Admission Requirements:

  • The verification of completeness of the prerequisites (see specific information below) (Group C) that have been set for the study cycle under the general regime of access and admission into Portuguese higher education.
  • Holders of a classification that gives access to higher education, understood as any diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority attesting the approval in a secondary education program in that country and granting them the right to apply and be able to enter in higher education in the country in which it was conferred. This qualification must be proven by:
  1. Declaration, issued by the official education services of the country of origin, certifying that the secondary qualification that the students hold, obtained in that country, is sufficient to enter the official higher education there in similar courses of those to whom they intend to apply, or certified of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education issued by a competent national authority;
  2. In the application process with foreign documents or documents  issued abroad, the candidate must present a copy of the original document, authenticated by the official education services of the respective country;
  3. At the time of the enrollment (in the case of the candidate being selected), the student will present the originals referred to in the preceding paragraphs and, if applicable, foreign diplomas recognized by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority
  • Holders of a Portuguese high school diploma.
  • Concrete conditions of admission in the 1st cycle in Sports Sciences:
  1. Verification of the specific academic qualification to enter the cycle of studies applied, which will focus on the subjects of the entrance tests fixed for the study cycle in question (02 Biology and Geology, or 16 Mathematics, or 18 Portuguese) , within the general Portuguese regime of access and admission, in order to ensure that through this competition are only admitted students who demonstrate knowledge in the subject of entry exams of level and content equivalent to those students admitted through the Portuguese general regime of access and admission;
  2. The verification of the knowledge of the Portuguese language, being the oral competence, when necessary, verified using videoconference;
  3. When the candidate does not hold national examinations, the academic qualification may report on one of three situations:
  • Have performed national tests of: Portuguese, or Biology or Mathematics to enter higher education in the country of origin;
  • Have performed final exams of the Portuguese, or Biology or Mathematics subjects of foreign secondary education;;
  • Have attended and obtained approval in the subjects of Portuguese, or Biology or Mathematics of the foreign secondary education (when proven that the candidate has conditions of access and admission in the higher education of the country of origin).

In the case of candidates from Brazil, of middle education, they may apply through the classification obtained in the ENEM. This classification ranges from 0-1000, while the Portuguese classification uses the scale of 0-200. The conversion of classifications is done by dividing the grade obtained in the ENEM by 5.

The verification of the conditions in points a and b will be done through documentary evidence to be delivered by the candidate at the time of application, as well as through documentary proof of the verification of the completeness of the prerequisites (Group C) .

PREREQUISITES

The candidate will have to fulfill the Prerequisites. These physical tests must be carried out in a Portuguese higher education institution, for example, FADEUP.

The Group C Pre-requisites aims to prove the functional, physical and sports fitness of the candidates appropriate to the requirements of the Course. The test consists of two parts: Functional fitness (A) and Physical fitness (B).

Being a Pre-requisite of selection, its result is expressed in Apt and Not Apt, not influencing the calculation of the grade of candidacy.

  • Functional fitness

The candidate must present medical evidence of his condition as Apt, in order to guarantee the functional assumptions indispensable to the pursuit of studies in Sports Sciences. This statement must attest that the candidate does not have any type of restriction to the practice of sports

  • Physical and sports fitness

The candidate must carry out the following practical tests:

  1. Athletics: long jump and endurance race
  2. Swimming: 50m run in one of four pure sports swimming techniques and one ventral start jump
  3. Gymnastics: a test consisting of a floor test and a horse test
  4. Collective sports: two modalities to choose among the following: handball, basketball, football and volleyball (in a 3x3 situation, domain of theoretical-tactical parameters essential to the game)
  5. The candidate will be considered “Apt” if he/she carries out the tests successfully.

 

Candidates of the 1st Phase must present a solemn declaration on how they will register in the Prerequisites, which will take place in the month of February / March 2017.

The candidates of the 2nd Phase must present proof of registration in the Pre-requisites.

* From the 25 places mentioned, 10 are destined for students of the Free State Provincial Government (Republic of South Africa).

SELECTION CRITERIA AND RANKING AND ITS WEIGHTINGS

Highest grade obtained in Secondary Education or equivalent;

CANDIDATES TIE-BREAKING CRITERIA

  • Better classification in Biology and Geology or Portuguese or Mathematics;
  • Best curriculum vitae (50% sports curriculum and 50% other elements);
  • Interview, considering the following criteria on a scale from 1 (low) to 4 (very high): motivation; maturity, communication and argumentation skills and knowledge of the profession.

DIGITAL DOCUMENTS TO BE PRESENTED IN THE ACT OF THE ONLINE APPLICATION

  • Identity Card and Vat Number, Citizen Card or Passport.
  • Certification of the Prerequisites or Solemn Declaration.
  • Declaration issued by the official education services of the country of origin and, when necessary, translated into English, stating that the secondary qualification obtained in that country is sufficient to enter there in official higher education in similar courses of those intended to apply for or a certificate of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education issued by a competent national authority. Candidates that are exempted from submitting the above mentioned declaration: a) Holders of the middle level education or 2nd grade in Brazil, who have taken the National Middle Level Examination - ENEM; b) That, under the terms of article 20º A of Decree Law no. 296-A/98, intend to substitute entrance exams for final exams of non-Portuguese courses. (Mandatory)
  • Certificate of completion of studies, equivalent to the level of secondary education in Portugal (document authenticated by the official education services of the respective country). (Mandatory)
  • Certificate describing the secondary studies completed abroad, with the final classification of the subjects of Biology, Mathematics and Portuguese (document authenticated by the official education services of the respective country). (Mandatory)
  • Classification of the completion exams of the foreign secondary education of the discipline of Biology, Portuguese and Mathematics (document authenticated by the official services of education of the respective country). Candidates Holders of the Middle Level Education or 2nd grade in Brazil, who have completed the National Middle Level Examination (ENEM), are exempt from submitting this certification, under the INEP / UPorto protocol. (Mandatory)
  • Proof of knowledge of the Portuguese language (oral and written competence) for students coming from secondary education not taught in Portuguese. Candidates from the CPLP are exempted from submitting this declaration. (Optional)

Conditions of preliminary rejection

Failure to deliver any of the elements indicated in the public notice of the opening competition, and/or non-payment of the fee up to the end of the deadline for submission of the application of the applying phase.

Application fee

The application is subject to a non-refundable payment of ¤ 100.00.

Procedure for generation of ATM References (in Portugal):

  3. Clicking "return to current account" will again find the reference generated.

In the case of payments made from abroad, you must make a bank transfer, with the expenses on behalf of the payer, using the data of the attached document. You must send the proof of the transfer to serv_academicos@fade.up.pt, with the following data: - Name, address, country, tax identification number.

Notice:

  • Once the deadline for submitting applications has been reached, applications whose fees have not been paid will be immediately rejected.
  • Candidates who are excluded or not placed in the 1st phase and who wish to apply for the 2nd / 3rd phase will have to submit a new application and pay its respective fees.

Candidates will be notified by email of Provisional results.

Candidates who wish to comment on the provisional results must send an email to serv_academicos@fade.up.pt in a message titled "Previous Audience".

The final results will be published on the website of the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto www.fade.up.pt

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

  1. Choose the cycle of studies / course (Admission applications - International Student ).
  2. Select "Submit Application". If you are already a student of FADEUP, you will have to validate yourself with the student username and password. If you are not a FADEUP student, you will be asked to complete the user request form. The credentials (username and password) will be sent to the e-mail that you indicate in the application form.
  3. Complete the application form and attach the requested documents. Notice: Fields in red are mandatory.
  4. Submit the application. If an error is detected when attempting to submit (eg mandatory fields to be filled), the system issues an alert message.
    If the information is submitted successfully, you should check all the data entered and confirm or edit them to make any correction.
  5. After confirming the submission of the application, you will receive information on how to pay the respective fee (notice: the ATM references may take some time to generate).

In the case of payments made from abroad, you must make a bank transfer, with the expenses on behalf of the payer, using the data of the attached document. You should then send the proof of the transfer to serv_academicos@fade.up.pt, with the following data: - Name, address, country, tax identification number (VAT).

Notice: Once the deadline for submitting the applications has expired, the applications for which the fees have not been paid will be rejected at the outset.

  1. Any problem in the submission of the application should be reported to serv_academicos@fade.up.pt, during the deadline for submission of applications, or on the business day following the end of it.

  1. Validate in the information system with the username and password used in the application;
  2. Click on your name;
  3. In the options that appear on the right side of the page select "Admission Applications".

PROCEDURE FOR THE ENROLLMENT

Students in the 1st and 2nd Phases will have their enrollment conditional between March 10, 2017 and July 30, 2017. In order to complete their enrollment, candidates must present the document proving their approval in the Prerequisites and make payment of the appropriate fees (first installment + school insurance) between July 31, 2017 and August 4, 2017.

The procedure will be available through FADEUP´s website (www.fade.up.pt), at the beginning of the enrollment period.
