Objectives
- Understand the main milestones in the history of palliative care nursing and anticipate development trends;
- Understand the healthcare system and its main policy guidelines;
- Understand the organization and resources that ensure care in the context of palliative care nursing;
- Understand the central and related concepts of palliative care nursing;
- Incorporate the most relevant theoretical frameworks into thinking about palliative care nursing;
- Locate the professional practice of the specialist nurse in medical-surgical nursing within the legal framework and the organization of health services.
Learning outcomes and competences
It is expected that the student understands the importance of the relationship between nursing and care for people in palliative situations, for the quality of care.

Eligibility for exams
The student must participate in 75% of the theoretical-practical and tutorial guidance hours, considering the number of hours foreseen in the study plan.
The student does not have to obtain a final grade of 9.5 in each of the two components.
If the student does not succeed as described, they will have to take an exam in the respective component(s), according to the regulations.
Calculation formula of final grade
There are four components of continuous assessment: a) Group work (35%) + b) Discussion (15%) + c) Collective portfolio (40%) + d) Regular activities (10%).
