Abstract (EN): The nematode/copepod index was proposed as a fast, easy and reliable method to study the effect of organic matter enrichment in coastal sediments. The inclusion of univariate indices at European Water Framework Directive (WFD, 2000/06/EC) as management tools have renewed researches interest for these indices. Many authors noted the sampling methodology, the effect of sediment nature on the index values and the difficulties for a correct interpretation of the obtained values, as major deficiencies of this index. In order to solve these problems and improve efficiency and reliability of the index an standard methodology was proposed, the effect of sedimentary environment on index values studied and new baseline values of the index proposed to make index interpretation easier and eliminate or buffer sedimentary influence.
